Yukari was down to her last spellcard. She couldn't remember the last time anyone besides Reimu had managed this. No matter, she was through playing around. She only had to hit him, or last another round. She was absolutely going to go for hitting him, of course. The boundary youkai wouldn't settle for a timeout win. [Yukari's Arcanum "Danmaku Bounded Field"] Normally, this was a progressive spellcard. In any other battle, it would have begun with sections of violet and blue bullets forming around the edge of the area, spiralling in towards her, and then flying out at several times the speed, with the density and pattern slowly increasing. But this was the last round of battle, and so she activated her spellcard on the very last section. Two completely impenetrable walls of bullets started to spiral in from the edge of the area, getting closer and closer to her and faster and faster, until at the last moment, they would almost close in, leaving only tiny safe areas right next to her, and then fly off back to the walls. Had she activated her spellcard like this in a normal fight, it would have looped back to the easier beginning part. But this was the conclusive round, and Mizuiro would either manage to dodge her spell, hit her and maybe tie the fight, or she would take him down with her last spell.

Mizuiro was rather surprised the nonspell stopped. How nice. And now that he had a moment to look, his opponent seemed considerably less relaxed.
Hmm, he really should have something exemplary for the last part of his spell. All bets were off now, of course. The columns and his bullets were everywhere, doused in the heat haze. Still, it felt like it needed something. It probably didn't, but it would make him feel better.
Hmm, what was this? Walls of bullets... And they seemed too dense to move through. And closer. and faster. Um.
It was forcing him to get closer to Yukari. Interesting... Why would she use a spell that would, as a matter of course, bring the highest density of both the haze and bullets closer to her? It was practically suicidal, that is if you could die in these battles.

The thing was, Yukari was taking a gamble. Because the walls of bullets would swirl in front of him as well as behind as they forced him in, forming an extremely tight spiral, and they had already reached the point where they were faster than her previous nonspell. She was only paying attention to her instincts, moving as little as possible so she didn't charge into a bullet, and she was betting on him slipping up and taking a hit before he got too close. After all, even the fastest youkai she knew had trouble outrunning this portion of her spell if they started off very far from her, and she'd been clear across the 'field'. It didn't matter if the bullets got closer if she was already having trouble seeing them and, if all went well, they wouldn't stay around for long, right?

Yukari Yakumo- Yukari's Arcanum "Danmaku Bounded Field": Hit, spellcard cancelled
Mizuiro- Forge Sign "Volcano-Core Smelter": Hit/timeout, spellcard cancelled
-Simultaneous hits as Mizuiro was about to time out anyways. Technical tie. Yukari, you're really out of practice, go shape up.-

As soon as he felt himself get hit, he shot backwards by blasting heat in front of him. This was a habit of getting away to get ready for the next spell... A second or two later, he remembered it was over.
He closed his eyes for a moment to compose himself; drawing his heat back inwards, properly forming his wings up behind him, sliding his claws back into their recession, and taking out a small piece of iron to snack on.
It really was so convenient to be able to process metals. Otherwise he wasn't sure how much he would have to eat to keep his wings in shape. Even as it was they could stand to be a bit shinier and sharper. Ah well.
He opened his eyes after the ten seconds it took to eat the iron, and examined his opponent, expecting the heat to have done a number on her. Almost all females complained at him after a battle because of their hair or skin or something like that. He couldn't quite remember.

Yukari, meanwhile, regained most of her composure almost immediately. She quickly extended her power to conceal her fangs, hide her claws, return her eyes to their softer gold, and make her shadows look normal, not like the void of purple and eyes that had vanished as soon as the battle ended.
One deep breath, another, and she was back to grinning. A gap opened for her to take a seat on, and she drew out her parasol, holding it daintily over her head as if nothing had happened.
"My, my, I am out of practice if I am tying in a danmaku battle. Though not just anyone could have managed that, even considering how long it's been since I was halfway serious," Yukari said, sounding amused.

Mizuiro basically leaned back on nothingness, or rather, heat. At least the eyes were gone, which was nice. But it was snowing, which wasn't as nice.
"You can't get stronger unless there's someone stronger or as strong as you, after all." He said calmly, after a little thought. "You get weaker if there are only those who are weaker than you. It's a natural balance."
But then, with a tone of curiosity, he asked "I don't suppose I can ask what that purple cover with all the eyes was? Or the big metal worms, for that matter?"
Mizuiro hoped he didn't have to see those eyes and worms again anytime soon. It wasn't normally something he did, but when he got home he was just going to sit in a tree for a while and watch the leaves waver. There normally wouldn't be leaves but it was quite warm next to his home, so those trees had persevered a bit more.

Ah, Yukari supposed that was true. It was a real shame there was nobody as powerful as her, then. She really had gotten careless, with nobody at her level to keep her strong.
Yukari's eyes glittered mischievously at his questions. Ah, youkai. How silly they could be, herself included.
"Of course you can ask- that doesn't mean I have to answer. I suppose I will humor you, though. The 'metal worms' are trains. They're used as transportation by humans in the outside world. And the 'purple cover'?" Yukari pulled out her fan and opened it, holding it up to her face to hide her expression.
"Why, that was me." She offered no further explanation on that statement, just sat on her gap grinning into her fan.

Transport? Hmph, whatever happened to walking? He knew things were going bad when those wheel things showed up.
That was her, was it? That might explain why the hat didn't fall off. And why her appearance changed, if she was just a personification of something. On the other hand, she could merely be avoiding the question. Humor him indeed.
"And all this because you were bored, hm?" Mizuiro could see the sense in that, at least. If little else, though he kept his speculations to himself.

"Bored, and out of practice. It was quite fun," Yukari said. She flicked her wrist, pulling a small piece of paper out of a gap.
"Now, I didn't promise any prizes at all for a tie. But I suppose you can have this~ Don't worry, it won't burn." She tossed the small, rolled-up paper, tied with a ribbon, at his head. She'd thought to heatproof it just to keep the game going. Behind him, another gap swallowed up the banner that she'd tied onto the shrine gate. No reason for that now that she'd had her fun.

Pretty good reasons to have a random fight, he supposed. He then sighed as she continued; he'd kind of guessed she would pull out that excuse. Oh, but what's that? A little scroll-looking thing. And she even said it won't burn. Hah, it'll certainly be tested about that if he took it home..
Mizuiro's upper two wings caught it between the tips with a mantis-like flash movement. He then delicately removed the ribbon (and tied it to the eyehole of one wing for later) and rolled out the paper to read it. Although he did angle his head as if to read, he kept his eyes on Yukari for a few seconds before actually doing so to see if she did something.

Yukari continued to stand there doing nothing until Mizuiro took his eyes off her to read the paper.
"Charm redeemable for either one rematch or one trip to the Outside World, your choice. Rip in half to summon Yukari and redeem prize. Also, Mizuiro, I stole your shirt," the paper read, in flowery but bold handwriting that was almost certainly Yukari's. When he finished reading, Yukari would be gone, vanished into one of her many gaps- and so was Mizuiro's shirt, though looking around would reveal that it was hanging harmlessly from the shrine's gate.

Mizuiro blinked for a moment, wonder how she'd done that. It was hard to get off, what with the holes for his sharp wings. He briefly considered ripping it in half right then. But he'd noticed his shirt and had decided, again, that it would be preferable to be the least annoying thing in the area in case of shrine maidens. And summoning Yukari was probably not a good way to do that.
He got his shirt back on with the usual level of difficulty, and tried to remember why he thought this was a good place to get water chestnuts.
