Here, you can read up on the various species of non-humans. New pages can be added for species of new characters, or ones that we missed can be added on request.
Unique Youkai:
Youkai that are the only one of their kind, often linked to a concept. These can be very weak, like Rumia (youkai of darkness), or incredibly powerful, like Yuuka (flower youkai) or Yukari (youkai of boundaries). Usually, they look like plain humanoids with unusual eyes, but in the case of some, like Nue (formless youkai), they may have other traits.
Gods:
Gods are beings with powers similar to unique youkai. They are a different species from youkai as they do not exist off of fear, but instead, faith. They can be very powerful, like Suwako, or very weak, like Shizuha, and they die if they are forgotten. A human who has gained enough faith can become a living god, with the powers of one but still able to die, and these are called arahitogami (Sanae is one). The Yama (judge of the dead) and shinigami are considered gods.
Ghosts:
Spirits of humans or human-like youkai who have died, or in the case of poltergeists, human-like spirits created from a human mind. Most of these exist in the various afterlives, but sometimes, spirits like Mima or Tojiko remain for varying purposes.
Animal Youkai:
Animals that lived long enough to be granted power and a humanoid form. These can be almost anything, from a firefly (like Wriggle), a cat (Chen), and even things like oarfish (Iku). They can be very weak (Wriggle again), or very powerful (Ran).
Magician:
Youkai magicians are almost humans, only with powerful magic that they can expand through study, and they do not age or require food or sleep (though most do eat and sleep anyways). Most tend to specialize in one area of magic, like Patchouli's focus on elemental spells and Alice's focus on doll manipulation.
Tengu:
There are a few types of tengu, but all are mountain-dwelling youkai. The ones most commonly seen are crow tengu, which have black or dark brown hair and feathered wings, and are very agile. Sometimes you will also encounter white wolf tengu, which have wolf ears and tails and acute senses. They seem to love drinking.
Kappa:
These water-dwelling youkai are rather offbeat, and seem to love fiddling with machinery. Apparently, they're imitating the humans in the outside world. They love cucumbers, and all wear backpacks and the same hats.
Oni:
Most of these live underground in a city near Former Hell. They appear as humanoids with horns and usually wearing shackles of some kind on their wrists, and have quite the thing for alcohol. They're very strong physically, though they may not have the magic to match.
Satori:
A very rare species, satori are mind-readers that can react to other's thoughts, and have a tendency to read other's thoughts out loud. For this, they are almost universally hated. They have a third eye connected to their body by several long tendrils, but otherwise look human.
Devils/Demons:
Vampires are a type of demon. Demons are youkai that are very close to humans physically, but don't think like them, and are usually dangerous.
Fairies:
Fairies are immortal beings born of natural phenomenon that have simple, childish minds and are usually very weak, though exceptions exist. They resemble winged children.
Therianthropes:
Humans who have a beast form that they turn into under a certain trigger. Can be inherited by blood, or caused by curses. The trigger is usually the full moon, but can be other things.
Zombies:
Reanimated corpses. Can be controlled by placing a seal on their face. If a human is bitten by one and not fatally injured, they will temporarily become one and later return to normal, but if the injuries are fatal, they will stay a zombie.
Hermits:
Humans who have stopped aging and maintain their lifespan by fighting off the shinigami who come to claim them. Apparently delicious to youkai.
Lunarians:
Unaging, "pure" humans from the moon. Hard to deal with.
Moon Rabbits:
Youkai rabbits from the moon.
